Anyway, just wanted to let you know what's up. Yar I'm currently trying to write a book on John the Apostle. Haha, I know what you're thinking, that this will be an ego trip since my name is John also.

Anyway, that's really really not the point. Basically my story in its pilot phase will chronicle the life of John the Apostle from the days of persecution before he was exiled to the Island of Patmos by Emperor Domitian to quite a significant period of time after that. I'll leave that to your imagination.

Anyway, the posting will be up in chapters and it will take painfully long as I blog and write really slowly. It will be based on some form of online research chronicalling the life of John that is not recorded in scripture as well as a whole load of imagination by your's truly.

The first chapter will be when I feel like it but I've left the picture below to give you a sneak preview to what it will cover. Boiling pot of oil, Roman execution, Angels flying around, sounds exciting right? Yup, stay tuned for: The Lost Chronicles of John Chapter 1

<img style="cursor: pointer; He was with God in the beginning.

These words flashed in my mind as I was raised above a boiling cauldron of oil. It was a terrible time to be an Apostle during the reign of Roman emperor Domitian. Persecution was rife and martyrdom common. Many things have changed since that day of Pentecost. Once we were seen as a minor irritant to the Roman Empire, now we are fugitives, dead men walking among the living.

Like dreaded rats, we were slaughtered wherever we were. Executions became entertainment. Coliseums built to put away those who threatened the divinity of the Roman Emperor. One by one, members of the twelve were put to death. James, my brother by birth at the hands of King Herod, Simon surnamed Peter crucified upside down.

I looked into the boiling pot. Fear gripped my body. My heart palpitated convulsively as the heat from the cauldron tinged the skin of my face. Though my flesh trembled with fear my soul was filled with peace as I was slowly yet painfully lowered into the boiling cauldron.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

The psalm comforts me as I took in what was to become my last breathe.

Lifesized Action Man morphs into Armoured War Bear!

Hi guys,

Anyway, during the week, there has been alot of speculation over certain events and whether the Armoured War Bear was involved in those events. Anyway, as the spokesperson for the AWB, I am here to quell those rumours. So let me start with the very first one.

Q1) Did the AWB have anything to do with the lightning assault on the merlion one week before the Singapore Biathlon 2009 commences and aren't bears the natural enemy of lions?

A1) No. Though the timing of the assault may be conspicuous, lightning strikes are a common phenomenon in Singapore and as one of the tallest water spouting monuments at Merlion Park, it is a matter time before our national icon goes through a baptism of fire, or in this case baptism by lightning (take note that Water is a good conductor of electricity). What would be conspicuous is if the Merlion cub was struck by lightning instead of the original Merlion as the Merlion cub is alot shorter and spouts less water.

I can see how the potential rivalry between the AWB and our Merlion can be construed however the Lion is the King of the Jungle while the Bear is the King of the Forest both governing different areas without different judicial styles. Furthermore, the Merlion is a cross-breed between a Mer (whatever that is) and a Lion, hence, it should be the King of the Sea a completely different terrain from the AWB. Hence they are not natural enemies but are instead strangers lost in translation.

A2) Was the AWB involved with the stabbing case of the EEE professor since it is conspicuous that electricity struck a professional water spouter on Saturday, and two days later an electrical engineering professor was struck.

Q2) Errrr..... No comment.

Ok that's all the questions I feel like answering today. 4 days till the Dawn of the Armoured Warbear!

John is L.A.M. Though evolutionists would like to think of the Armoured War Bear as an evolved form of the Polar Bear, the truth is actually further away from that.

The Armoured War Bear is actually the predecessor of the Polar Bear who have since lost the genetic information for growing lumps of fur and hair compacted so tightly together that they form a hard carapace which gives Armoured War Bears their "armour". (Basically what I'm saying is, Armoured War Bears are not the "missing link" that evolutionists have been desperately trying to find to salvage their largely unproven hypothesis (yes its not even a theory) on evolution.)

Though rarely seen or documented, the Armoured War Bear (henceforth known as AWB cos I'm just too tired of typing Armoured War Bear) has been immortalized in various media such as the Golden Compass

Or more recently, the Soviet War Bear.

However, I seriously doubt that any of these renditions potray the true essence of an AWB which has recently become a symbol for many aspiring biathlon participants as the epitome of "amphibiousness". Anyway here is my best impression of an AWB.

Ok I know what you're thinking, that this looks more like John Lam's abs rather than an AWB. But, I did tell you that this was my impression of an AWB and I was really trying to do an impression of an AWB and this is really my best impression so you have to take it or leave it.

Anyway, some of you might be asking that if the AWB is so powerful, why isn't it used by the greatest armies in the world for combat purposes?

Well let me answer this question? Just because you haven't heard of an AWB being used in combat doesn't mean there isn't one. Let me give you an example from the Greatest, most Powerful military in the entire WORLD - the Singapore Armed Forces.

Ok I know what you're thinking but please bear in mind, that the SAF has not lost a single war since Singapore's independence in 1965. Just compare this with USA's track record who since 1965, have lost half of the wars they fought! Singapore - 100% (A+), USA - 50% (C-).

Anyway back to the point. The SAF believes in the power of the AWB so much that they have in their arsenal not just the Armoured War Bears but also the

Infantry War Bear

Guards War Bear

Commando War Bear

However, though tempting, SAF has not enlisted the Signals War Bear as their paws are just too large for the tiny buttons on those signal sets.

Anyway, my point is, don't mess with the AWB and if you ever find yourself face to face with one, you're most likely dead unless you're both in a Biathlon as it is against the rules to eat other participants and AWBs have more integrity than to break the rules.

Oh yar talking about Biathlons, I'll be participating in one next year yay and I promise that there will not be any AWBs around. They hate the equatorial regions anyway.

John is L.A.M (Lean Amphibious Machine)

P.S: L.A.M is not liable for any activities/foolish actions/foolish questions that results from naive individuals who would believe a fictional report on a make-believe creature without doing any research of their own.

And David served his Generation

Ok I know I haven't really been posting and the last time I did was like 5 months ago? So I've decided to post a little today.

Over the past few weeks maybe months, my mind has constantly been filled with acronyms. Acronyms such as YPM and YPMS. Anyway, in case you do not know what the two acronyms mean, let me warn you that the rest of today's post would probably not apply to you as well.

Yar, two day ago I went through an ultra-classified top-secret meeting which I will not divulge any information about. (Sorry for the tease). Anyway, the point wasn't what happened in that meeting or that we are planning on world domination but it was what I learnt from that meeting.

I learnt that being a leader is not always easy. I learnt that leaders are humans too. They come with flaws and with bits and pieces that makes some people laugh and others cry. I learnt that being a leader means that whatever you do carries more weight and that every action or inaction you make has a higher consequence and bears heavier on your conscience.

Despite how tough it might sound to be a leader, I believe that there has never before been a point in time that leadership, any form of leadership is as wanted, needed, prayed for, thirst for, fasted for, hungered for than at any time in YPM's history. These are dangerous times for each and everyday, I am reminded that the Lord is coming.

Wars and rumours of wars. Nation rising against nation. Kingdom rising against Kingdom. Famines and Earthquakes in various places. False Christs and False prophets appear in various places.

These are times when leadership is important. These are times when the youth have to stand up and serve their GENERATION. I have served my generation for the past decade and I see my generation's time of service in this ministry coming to an end.

I urge the Samuels to stand up and say 'yes Lord'. I urge the Davids to slay their Goliaths and stand in the gap for their generation. I urge the Levis, the Josephs, the Enochs, the Benjamins, the Timothys, the Barnabas's, the Daniels, the Petras to live up to their names.

Joseph the dreamer, who through his obedience brought salvation to not just the Jews but also the Egyptians and the rest of the World. It is your time to stand.

The tribe of Levi, set apart as a tribe of priest, holy, pleasing and acceptable to God. It is your time to stand.

Daniel the captive of Nebuchadnezzar who taught 3 generations of pagan Kings who is the real God of this world. It is your time to stand.

Timothy who in his youth was picked to lead a New Testament Church. It is your time to stand.

David who slayed Goliath and was a man after God's heart. It is your time to stand.

Barnabas who was not afraid to stand by God's messengers in their times of trouble. It is your time to stand.

Benjamin whose name was changed from the son of my sorrow (Benoni) to the son of my right hand (Benjamin). It is your time to stand.

Petra the rock who will shelter the Lord's people in the times of the end. It is your time to stand

And my dear Enoch, the one who walked with God in the most intimate of ways. There is no better time than now, for it is your time to stand.

The Lord says in 2 Chronicles 7:14: if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

It's time to stand. It's time to pray. It's time to be humble and seek his face. It's time to hear from heaven and ask for healing. It's time to heal this land. You have been created for a time as this. It's time to stand.

Miraculously I think, it was somehow appropriate that the newest group is named David because David served his generation and for YPM, it is time to stand, pray and serve our generation.

John is L.A.M (Loved by the Almight Messiah)

Meaning of John Lam Zhenren

Hello all, I did some thinking to find out what does my name mean and this is what I came up with!

Jesus
Our
Holy
Nazarene

Loves
All
Men

Zealously
Hoping
Every
Nation
Reveres
Elohim
Never-endingly

Wah cool man. No one comes to the except through me.

Jesus was a Nazarene (born in Nazareth). Anyway next time, I'll explain to you what does my girlfriend's name mean.

John is L.A.M (Lunatic of the Amazing Messiah)

Fool for Jesus, Lunatic for the Almighty Messiah

Just came back from COS(MP) High Praise.

Absolutely amazing man.

To be honest for the past few weeks, I have been rather stressed, depressed and worried. I was stressed over my busy lifestyle as a Intern Banker, Part time tutor to 5 students, Cell Group Leader, Central Committee Member, Self-Made Entrepreneur and Ministry Head. I was depressed over how the ministry is not growing and how it seems lukewarm at times.

Revelation 3:16 says, "So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth."

I was depressed at how if the ministry is lukewarm, then it must be really disgusting to God because well you only spit out stuff that's really disgusting like phlegm or something unpalatable.

But you know what, God listens to prayers even when they are mainly groanings and moaning, well mine was anyway.

Romans 8:26-27 says, "In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will."

And today at High Praise something really amazing happened, the Spirit of God came and people lifted praises to the Lord and His Glory came down and filled the place. I believe that the biggest miracles are those that creates a change in people's hearts. I could see the church worshipping the Lord with all their strength, with all their might and all their soul. Young and old, all worshipping the Lord in the way King David did. All the tiredness, all the burdens that I brought along today, all gone. I started the day drearily with a morning meeting in church but ended the day in joy. The more I praised the Lord the less tired I became, the more I worshipped, the less weary I was almost like the verse which said.

"He who hopes in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31

Well, I'm just really really happy, its as if this void in me has been filled. Today service is like going to a rock concert or the hippest night club. However unlike the two examples mentioned which usually leaves people with a feeling that there's something missing or a void, walking out of church made me feel complete.

Let me leave this with you. Hellboy 2 said that there is a hole in man's heart. Well I think it's true. There is a hole in the heart of every man and woman. It's not a small hole. In fact its a gigantic hole. It's so big it's a God-sized hole, that only God........ can fill.

John is L.A.M (Lunatic for the Almighty Messiah)

A tale of Rocks, Papers and Scissors

MONEY changes hands, and boatmen joke and jibe as news of the Pedra Branca verdict finally filtered to Marina South Pier on Friday.Mr Hazlee Lewis, 51, gaunt and genial with an old sea dog's tan, sits quietly behind a counter, where he works as a liaison officer for a maritime company.

For months now, he has seen newspaper pictures of suit-clad diplomats battling over Pedra Branca in the high-profile court case fought half a world away. And once again, the memories are flooding back.He is a little boy again. He is riding piggy-back on his father.

His father is huffing and puffing, making his way slowly up a dark, winding staircase that leads to the top of the lighthouse. The stone walls smell damp. The steps are orange with the glow from kerosene lamps hanging on the walls. When they finally reach the top, the view takes the 8-year-old boy's breath away.

He sees sky and sea, 360 degrees all around, glued together in one clean line.It is hot and stuffy like a greenhouse. But he feels like the king of the world. In the 1960s, Mr Hazlee Lewis' father, George, was a keeper of the light at Horsburgh Lighthouse on Pedra Branca.

He died in 2004 at age 89.But during the 15 years he helped manage Horsburgh Lighthouse, he often took his family there during the school holidays. He knew his children missed him.Work meant he had to rotate between different lighthouses of Singapore, staying for a month at each, with three days of shore leave in between.Once every six months, he would get a three-week break. For $200 a month, free food and free lodging, he worked with a crew of six to keep the beacon burning bright.Every day at sunset, the crew would switch on the beam by turning a fist-sized knob.

Every two hours after that, the crew had to spend 15 minutes winding weights up the tower by hand.DOWN-TO-EARTH PEOPLEThe lighthouse worked like a grandfather's clock. The descent of the weights turned a 2m-wide lens around the lamp, giving it the characteristic lighthouse sweep. At sunrise, the lights went out.

The crew would spend the rest of the day polishing the lens, refuelling the kerosene in the lamps, cooking and cleaning.'They had to cover the lens with a canvas because the sun shining through it could start a fire,' Mr Mervin Lewis, Mr Hazlee's 68-year-old brother, recalled. He added that most of the crew members on Pedra Branca were 'kampung people', 'down-to-earth folk who talked about nothing but fishing'.

Everyone spoke in Malay.Free time was spent fishing for meals, swimming and playing cards.'Some workers would carve bird cages as a side business,' he said.A 2m-long python and iguanas lived among the rocks. At a nearby reef, there were sea porcupines, octopuses, shrimps, clams, crabs and corals.

Once in a while, colossal oil tankers would rumble by, like floating buildings, leaving the lighthouse choking in diesel fumes. And when night fell, there were galaxies and shooting stars if you squinted and looked up past the lighthouse beam that spun round and round the whole night long. The adults loved the peace and quiet. The children got bored.Mr Hazlee Lewis said: 'After the first week, I told my father every day, 'Papa, I want to go home!'

To entertain him, his father told him ghost stories, just before tucking him into bed, under the woollen blankets with red-and-white stripes. He told him of the old man who sits at night on the rocks like a mermaid; of the black, hairy arm that once reached in for him from a window high up on the tower; and of the fireball he once saw rolling down the steps of the lighthouse.'But he was never afraid,' Mr Mervyn Lewis said. 'He knew that spirits existed at all lighthouses.'Commanding the eastern access into the Singapore Strait, through which some 900 ships now pass daily, Pedra Branca houses a traffic information tower that relays shipping information back to the mainland.

The area is a restricted zone and Singapore's navy boats regularly patrol the waters. But things were different then.'Whenever there was a storm, my father would invite fishermen to take shelter at the lighthouse,' Mr Mervyn Lewis said.'It didn't matter if you were a Singaporean, Indonesian or Malaysian. At sea, we were all friends.'Once a month, a supply boat came, laden with fresh food and a change of crew. But there were no electricity and no generators on the island.Vegetables stayed fresh only for a week.

The crew drank filtered rainwater, ate canned food and fished every day before drying the catch on rooftops.LIKE BEING MAROONED'It was like being marooned on an island,' Mr Mervyn Lewis said.'Some of the crew members developed cataracts because of the lack of fresh vegetables in their diet and the exposure to the sun. People didn't wear sunglasses in those days.'In the days before radio communication was installed, the supply boat would sometimes come unannounced, bearing bad news from the mainland. The crew would gather on the rocks, watching with dread.Mr Hazlee Lewis was still a child, oblivious to his father's tough life. But in school, he would swell with pride when he boasted to classmates: My father works in a lighthouse. He keeps sailors safe.

Every month, a few days before his father's return, Mr Hazlee Lewis and his siblings would put on their best behaviour.'The first thing my father did when he came back was to get a full report from my mother about our behaviour for the past month,' he said.'And then he will decide what punishment to give us.'The sea taught the old man many things. He was always patient, always thoughtful, strong and silent, just like a lighthouse.

A few years before he died, the children took their ailing father back to the relatively nearer Sultan Shoal and Raffles Lighthouses to look at them one last time.Mr Hazlee Lewis remembered that his father was quieter than usual that day. After his death, they scattered his ashes in the sea.

It was the old man's last wish.

I took this from http://wildsingaporenews.blogspot.com/2008/05/pedra-branca-old-keeper-of-light.html and I thought it was a great story to share regarding this case. Singapore may have won the paper (deed to Pedra Branca) and Malaysia may have gotten rocks but the Scissors remains, a decision has to be made with regards to how South Ledge will be split. But for now let's put aside nationalistic animosity and focus instead on building a brighter future.

John is L.A.Mbasted

PS: there's a dead ant in the middle of my screen at the moment, apparently it crawled underneath the LCD screen somehow and now i cannot remove it, cos i squashed it while it was crawling around the screen. its dead and stuck between the LCD screen and the laptop screen. Crap! Stupid ant is going to ruin my movie experience the next time i watch movies on my laptop. I said apparently because I dont know whether the old man was injured. Looks okay to me.

I got stuck on the bus for about 45 minutes while they sorted out the matter. It was a long and agonizing wait but in the end they loaded us up to a different 196 and allowed us to go off.

Its an upgrade! Because there's a mobile tv on the new bus. The police came to take down the particulars of the old man and the bus driver.

So, I wasted 45mins of my life siting in a 196 bus. That's cool.

The End

PS: I wrote this while I'm on the new upgraded bus, reciting to the girlfriend who is typing on behalf of me. We managed to catch this stall's specialty at a rather unholy hour when the traffic was low (low meaning that it takes 15 min to be served). It was my first time trying out the dishes at this stall. Have heard alot of rave reviews about and well the rumours are true, the dishes served here are simply DE-licious!

This is what I had - the fish set. You know, the funny thing is that the more you slack, the more tired you feel. Well at least that's how I feel. Though there are days in which I am so busy that I hardly have time to catch my breath, I feel energized by the activity I go through and I get a good night's sleep knowing that I have done alot of hardwork. However, there are also those days in which I just procrastinate all work and the more I do so, the more tired I become.

Anyway, today's topic is on tiredness. I read this verse from the book of Matthew today which says: Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)

This is one of my favourite verses. It's kind of amazing how God seems to care so much for us, that even something as insignificant as fatigue and weariness is taken care of by God. I'm just amazed and astonished that my God would take an interest in me.

I remember back in JC2, I was chairing the church's youth group while doing my A Levels. That's a really fatigue time man. Squeezing the different committee's meetings between study sessions and all that. However, I remember that each nigh, I would have great rest. At the end of it all, the camp was a great success and I scored straight A's for my A Levels. It really wasn't easy but God was really the source of my strength and I'm glad that he cares enough to provide me with rest when I labored and was heavy laden.

If you're stressed, majorly worked out or just plain tired, why not find rest in the most peaceful resting place in the whole Universe - the arms of God.

John is L.A.M (Lover of the Almighty Messiah)

Isaiah 40:31 says: He who hopes in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Format Complete

Hi all, sorry for not blogging in such a long time.

Anyway, I reformatted my com and now I need to find all those pictures which I backed up on DVDs. Psalms 18:1

Can you imagine, uncountable number of stars out there in the 'known universe' all just declaring the glory of God?

Can you fathom, billions of galaxies, many of whom we have not even seen yet proclaiming the work of his hands?

He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Psalms 147:4

Imagine, God calls each star by name. You know what else God calls by name? You and me. Everyday, He reaches out to you. He knows the number of hair on your hand. My God, the God who created the whole universe. My God, who's absolutely huge, who measures the universe in the span of his hand calls me by name. My God, who flung stars burning at 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit into space and stretched the heavens cares enough for something which is so insignificant amidst all of His creation. Man, that is awesome.

Anyway, the above picture is taken from the core of the Whirlpool Galaxy which we saw earlier. I'm not going to explain what it is or influence what you think it is but I just wanted to say that the universe reflects His glory. Everywhere we look, we see grace and mercy, we see the greatest miracle of all. An omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent God taking away the punishment which we deserve and placing it on Himself. There can be nothing more awesome than this.

The above picture is a developing star called AB Aurigae. The black lines are actually caused by extremely strong glare from the star and astronomers use a coronograph to block out the glare so we can have better pictures. So the black lines are really very very bright light!

John is L.A.M (Loved by the Almighty Messiah)

Last Day at Work

It's my last day at work today.

Feel kindda happy and sad at the same time. Think when I step out of this place, I'll be overcome with a sense of nostalgia, since I was here almost everyday for the last 3 months. However, I'm kindda happy to go as all the interns who come in together with me are gone and I'm the last intern standing haha. Yar my girlfriend Felicia started school already. I had lunch with her every single day and for the past two days, lunchtime was rather awkward since she's not around. Kindda miss her. Anyway, I'm posting a picture that we made together to commerate our times at Singapore Media Press and helping out with the Executive Magazine. Anyway I know its a little blurry, so I shall explain. It states that the meal is served with soup and free flow of drinks (coffee/tea/ice lemon tea).

This is what I ordered, tuna croissant. Anyway this was the conversation that ensued between my girlfriend and the floor manager.

Felicia: Hi, how do I refill the drink if it runs out?

Floor Manager: (loudly) Refill?! There's no refill! Why would you think there is refill? We just let you have the meal so that its cheaper for you to buy like that. No refill.

Felicia: But the menu says here "free flow of drinks"

F.M: Where? (I point to it and she recites it out loudly) "The meal is served with soup and free flow of drinks, coffee, tea, or ice lemon tea." (pauses) "Free flow of drinks" (pauses) No. It doesnt mean free flow of drinks. How can it be free flow of drinks! Its not. Sorry there's no refill here.

Felicia: Okay. Then its fine. (...-_-)

What made it worst was that later on, she actually talked behind our back and kept pointing to us while sniggering with her employees when we were STILL eating at the restaurant. Man, really bad service. If your labels were printed wrongly, just apologize and mention that you're regretful or something. You don't have to talk about your customers behind their back. We could hardly eat our food in peace. Oh yar and the present Fullerton Hotel was once a Post Office. Cool Man. The Philatelic Museum is open everyday from 9am to 7pm except on Mondays when it opens at 1pm. Each admission costs $5. It took us about 1 and a half hours to explore the entire place. It's pretty interesting and for a philatelist like me, it's kind of like putting me in a candy shop. However if you have no interest in stamps at all, its still a great educational place to go to.

John is L.A.M (Life as a Mail)

And in today's news, Singapore shares drop like mad. Bear Run! Bull die! Sky is falling! Share prices collapsing! Sell! Sell! Sell! Ok. Well, below are some of the sights of Fort Siloso, the last fort in Singapore. It also contains the largest collection of artillery in the region. It's also the place where political activist, Mr. Chia Thye Poh was exiled to. His 9 year exile combined with his 22 years of imprisonment would have given him the record of being the world's longest serving prisoner-of-conscience, even beating Nelson Mendela. However, if you only take into account imprisonment then Nelson Mendela wins. Below are some of the pictures we took at Fort Siloso, anyway, there are water coolers here to refill your water bottles if you need to and the staff are really friendly.

It's canons galore on Pulau Blakang Mati. This island with its 3 forts used to be part of the coastal defence system for the Main Island of Singapore. With its large numbers of artillery, the island was thought to be impregnable. However this theory was disproven by the Japanese military when they invaded our shores. For a $8 entrance fee. It was a pretty good experience. Really, borught out the adventurer in me. If you happen to be in Singapore on your next vacation, this is a place not to be missed apart from Underwater World and the Night Safari of course.

John is L.A.M (Lifesized Action Man)

In today's news: The kiss of the SIA planes.

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/292335/1/.html

Pulau Blakang Mati Part II - Food of Sentosa

Hi All, Here I've posten some of the delicious food we ate at Sentosa!
I ate mainly from this Le Xin Stall at Ko Fu near Palawan Beach. Below are the pictures we took.

From the top:

1) San Lau Hor Fun. This item is really good, however I felt that the texture of the Hor Fun itself is rather uneven. However, the gravy was pretty good and the ingredients blended well with each other. 6.5/10

2) Soup. Well, nothing much to be said here, its just soup.

3) Pineapple Fried Rice. The high ratings given to this dish is due to the heavenly taste that results from the amalgamation of pork floss, saffron rice and pineapple. 7/10

4) Zha Yun Tun Hor Fun. This dish is a plain Jane. No 'wow' factor expected here. The Zha Yun Tun was a let done as it contained nothing. 6/10

5) Sin Chew Fried Rice. Pretty good stuff. Definitely among my faourites list. Though not the best that I have eaten, it is almost there. At $4, it is a good buy compared to the price of other food on Sentosa Island. 7/10

Well, tomorrow I'll carry on posting my adventures on Pulau Blakang Mati, so stay tuned and hang tight.

John is L.A.M (Lifesized Action Man)

Journey To Little India!

Hi all, I'll continue my Sentosa post tomorrow as I made a promise to show some Indian food today and I John is L.A.M. am a keeper of my word.

Since the theme was Indian food, I thought what better way to try Indian food than to travel down the one part of Singapore which holds the largest trace of Indian Culture - Little Indian. I discovered some rather Singaporeanese Indian food at S.A. Samad Muslim Food #01-326 at Tekka Market.

Below is what I ordered, Roti John! It's one of the rare dishes that shares the same name as I do and is a definite must-try when one travels down to Singapore.(Ok the sole purpose of that sentence is to boost my ego.)

Above is the Roti John which I bought from the stall. It's pretty decent, great chilli sauce, however I personally feel that the egg could be more generous. My ideal Roti John is one brimming with that wonderful omelette and meaty interior that keeps people coming back for more. Though short of my personal fantasies, this selection is still pretty good, overall I give it 7/10

Anyway, here's a synopsis of the Pulau Blakang Mati Series which will be showing over the next few days.

Ep 1) 20,000 Leagues under the Underwater World - A thrilling adventure into the deep unknown. Faced with bizarre creatures like the Japanese Giant Spider Crab and the Colossal Arapaina Fish as well as the ghastly Half Shark Half Human Sharmans, our courageous adventurers brave the riches of the ocean.

Ep 2) Food of Pulau Blakang Mati - Starved almost to death, our courageous adventurers chance upon some local delights, would these unfamiliar food, nourish or poison them?

Ep 3 ) An Old Fortress - The adventurers locate an abandoned fortress on the island. Will this new find bring them any new clues about the island's past?

Till then, keep yourself occupied with today's news: Singaporeans get to fly earlier than expected.
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/292063/1/.html

Land Ho! It's Pulau Blakang Mati!

Hi all, I'm back with my adventures on Pulau Blakang Mati which means Island of Death from Behind. Well, to my disappointment, I didn't see much death. In fact the island was pretty vibrant and it's in fact, a tourist hotspot! Well I guess it's because my information is backdated by 35 years. This island was renamed Sentosa in 1972, which means tranquility in Malay and has been transformed into a purely recreational island. Below are the photographic evidence I've collected from my latest escapade.

First Up, Sentosa Station at Vivocity! But UnderwaterWorld sure was fun. Paid for it using my mini UOB Visa. Good thing I brought that along because there's a 15% discount for all UOB credit card members. So it drove the price from $19.90 per person to %16.90, cool eh? Anyway, the ray feed and turtle feed costs $3 and $2 respectively but it's pretty worth it I guess, cos u probably pay more to eat them. Anyway here's my message for the day!

PLEASE DON'T EAT TORTOISES, TORTOISE EGGS AND DRINK TURTLE SOUP. MOST TURTLE AND TORTOISE SPECIES ARE ENDANGERED AND THEY ARE ALSO MY FAVOURITE ANIMALS! SO PLEASE DON'T EAT THEM. THANK YOU!

For those, who never ever ate tortoises or turtles before, I owe you my deepest gratitude for all the efforts you've mustered in refraining yourself from trying this cruel delicacy. For those who have eaten them before, it's not too late to turn back from your evil ways. You can start doing so by repeating the following lines:

Turtles are friends not food.

Chicken is food but turtles are friends.

Cows may be killed humanely but turtles are not.

Just because I eat fish doesn't mean I should eat turtles. (Repeat, but replace the word turtle with tortoise)

If you repeat the above lines 83 times a day, I'm sure that you'll be on your way to a more guilt-free diet.

Till then, let's keep the earth turtle/tortoise friendly.

John is L.A.M

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://johnislam.blogspot.com/2007/08/land-ho-its-pulau-blakang-mati.html' title='Land Ho! Though we agree that the dry Yun Tun Mee is much better, this soup version is great too. In my opinion, it's even better than Parklane Zha Yun Tun Mee. The sauce is simply amazing and the noodles delectable. A definite must-try 8/10 (for soup version)

This is the Otah found at the same stall. Haha, almost the same la. The place is rather quaint but cosy, quite a nice place to go when you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city and for $3.50 for their Lemon Chicken Rice, it is pretty reasonably priced considering its location in the city area. The Lemon Chicken Rice is not spectacular or anything but it is pretty decent and quite worth eating la. Overall, I give it a 7/10

My girlfriend ate the Hor Fun. On good days, I give it a 9.5/10 and on bad days a 7/10 so on average still 8.25/10 which is good by my standards. Mr Tea is located at Singapore Management University, School of Information Systems.

In today's news: Malaysian Scientist to try to make Male Mosquitoes bred in laboratories sexier and more appealing to Wild Female mosquitoes. Had to drag myself out of bed due to this spirit of moratorium. Spent 2 hours from 4am to 6am creating excuses to skip IPPT while lying on my bed. However I had some kind of epiphany about the need for self-discipline and how excuses are actually not very good. (Newton's Law of Inertia states that a stationary object will stay at rest unless an external force acts on it. Well this external force is self-discipline and the equal and opposite reaction which is present according to Newton's 3rd Law is excuses.)

Anyway, I bumped into an old school mate, back from the days when I was in VJC. Cool man, every week I meet someone new (I mean old). I think this IPPT thing is like a way for guys to reunite or something. Anyway, he managed to pass and he ran the same timing as me. Cool man but because of his sit-up he didn't get a silver. As for me, I got a SILVER again! But I managed to cut my running time by 30 seconds and I did 60 sit-ups (So for today and tomorrow my abs are gonna hurt like crazy.

Anyway, I figure that if every week I can cut my run time by 30 seconds, it'll take me 1 and a half weeks to get my gold! Yay! But till then I'm gonna just keep going for my Saturday morning trainings at Bedok Camp.

John is L.A.M (Local Area Madness)

In today's news: Singapore to build longest underground expressway in South East Asia.

Fill in this blank _________________ with your own title

For the cat lovers out there I bring you more Cats from Aljunied. It chose to reside underneath a bicycle. Not very photogenic though, I had to take at least 5 shots to get a good one. I shall call him Dopey (dun ask why, he just looks dopey to me. Maybe someone peddled him Panadol or something)

This one's rather photogenic but she's rather cynical. I have to say that it is the worst Prawn Noodles I've ever eaten. The noodles were bland, the prawn was bland and the fish cake, as you guessed it, was bland as well. Technically, if all the ingredients are blend, then the soup base should be pretty good because all the flavour should have gone into the soup. (John's Law of Conservation of Flavour states that flavour cannot be destroyed but merely dissolves in the solvent it is placed in) But surprisingly, the soup base was bland as well! Overall, I give it a 2/10.

Here are two items from Asian Kitchen. Above is the Pork Dumpling (Xiao Long Bao a.k.a Small Dragon Bun). It's pretty good but not as good as the one at Din Tai Fung. The pork's rather tender and the soup that flows out from is like fertiliser to my palate. So it's pretty good la. 7/10

Above is red bean milk tea from Asian Kitchen. Yar bascially the donut is pretty crispy and the oreo taste just makes me want to scream, "TAI HAO CHI LE!!!!" Which means its too nice to eat! However the Dark Chocolate Donut below also from the same stall sux. So overall I give it a 6/10. (Average of 9/10 and 3/10 for Oreo Donut and Dark Chocolate Donut respectively means 6/10!)

Actually the Dark Chocolate was not bad for those who love dark chocolate. Yar so we went for all the stations together. Yar nowadays IPPT very high tech everything is all sensors and scanners and all that (I'm impressed!), even the PTI (Pure Torture Instructor) uses PDAs (Public Display of Accesory!) to reset your scores or whatever they do with their PDAs. (Maybe they play solitaire). Anyway the point is that its very high tech la. Yar only managed to get a silver cos I didn't run fast enough. Its a huge blow to my ego so I decided that I will come back and run every week until I get a gold (stupid ego! Now must wake up at 0630 hrs on Saturdays). Yar like I always say, free money must take. For those who do not know, the SAF (Serve And Forget) provides incentives for us when we go for IPPT.

If you get pass,

You will get $100

If you get a silver

You will get $200

If you get a gold

Then its $400

See, so its quite worth it la, go for one and a half hours of IPPT then get $400 (that is if you get a gold on your first try) but since I got a silver (boohoohoo!) then I only get $200, maybe next week I can try to get a gold and get an additional $200. Yar that's all for today.

John is L.A.M (Likes Attending Marathons)

John's Advice for the Day: (For Reservists Only)
Free money must take! I was quite a hermit (as in the crab not a mispelled version of the frog) so i only shorted one lot.

For the slightly ignorant this is what happens when you short.

JES101: John Explains Stocks 101 (written by Professor in Training John is L.A.M (Lose Alot of Money)

1) When person A (Let's call him John) believes that the stock price of an item i.e. JADE is going down, he can choose to short the stock. (We shall assume that JADE is worth 0.280 at this point)
2) When John shorts, he sells what he does not have. He has to borrow from some guy (i.e. POEMS) and promise to buy back the same amount of the same stock later.

3) John shorts the x amount of lots of the stock at the prevailing market price (.280) <- present market price

Amount received = .280 * X lots (assume X=1 lot = 1000 shares)
= $280

(For those less ignorant, yes I know you dun receive money right away when you short the stock but I, John Lam Zhenren explained it this way for illustration purposes)

4) When price plummets, he buys the stock back to repay the guy he borrowed from (in this case DBS Vickers/POEMS/Broker/etc)

5) John buys back stock at the NEW prevailing market price (.200) <---(Price dropped because of scandal in the office)

Amount spent = .200 * X lots (assume X=1 lot = 1000 shares)
= $200

Amount earned = Amount Received - Amount Spent
= $280 - $200
= $80

6) So if price drops, he earns tonnes of money. :> (Woohoo!)

7) But if price rises for don't know whatever risen (maybe a bull ran into the stock market and made all the brokers run around with their arms all up, then other brokers taught he trying to buy alot of JADE at very high price. <- maybe that's why they call it a bull run)

Amount earned = Amount Received - Amount Spent =Negative Number!!! BIG FAT MINUS SIGN IN FRONT OF YOUR MONEY!!!

8) Then John lose money lor! :<

9) And if John don't have enough money to pay back the broker then he go eat badly prepared puffer fish, or swim with the hippos (whichever is a faster)

To cut the very long story short, because of some rotational play by some CFO of JADE technologies, the price went up instead of going down as expected. (I shall explain what is rotational play another day) so I lost some money. Anyway lessons learnt. No more shorting/borrowing/contra. I shall stick to good old Benjamin Graham's Intelligent Investor.

John is L.A.M (Lose Alot of Money)

John's Stock Pick of the Week - Yongnam (buy and hold!)
PS: John Lam is not responsible for money lost in anyway as a result of any action taken after reading this blog be it through shorting, buying, holding or dropping your money into the toilet bowl because you read my blog while doing your morning business and am perturbed by what I wrote.
